If Tony Taylor hadn’t been born to be a singer/songwriter, he might have been a great bartender: the man knows how to mix disparate elements into something tasteful and textured, perfect for an evening at the honky-tonk or an afternoon on the patio bar. His music mixes elements of country, folk, blues, and modern rock. His personal approach to it mixes intricate self-taught guitar with plain emotion, and laid-back modesty with vocal urgency. And his growing audience mixes everyone from hardcore country fans to trendy college kids to music scene veterans who were around for the first round of outlaw country in the Texas Hill Country setting that Taylor calls home.

Originally hailing from Corsicana, TX - the birthplace of one of his songwriting heroes, Billy Joe Shaver - Taylor honed his guitar chops on an eclectic mix of everything from Willie Nelson to Pearl Jam to the Beatles. Forming his first band at age 19, he played pasture parties, open mics and the occasional paying gig as he relocated through Waco, Lubbock, and eventually his current home of New Braunfels. Still young but with years of experience, he soon found gigs at local landmarks including Gruene Hall, Cheatham Street Warehouse, and Billy’s Ice, occasionally opening for well-known acts like Wade Bowen, the Gourds, and Walt Wilkins. Along the way he found his voice as a songwriter, capturing his subtle grooves and heartfelt lyrics in the studio on his 2010 debut album It’s About Time, receiving favorable reviews from Texas Music Magazine and elsewhere and watching his profile rise.

Emboldened by the album’s completion, Taylor’s plans for the near future include a push to radio, forming a new band (he has mostly performed as a solo act in recent years) and turning his musical passion into a livelihood. Brimming with talent, ambition, and admirably good nature, the chance is his now more than ever.

I saw Tony Taylor at The River Haus in Gruene & I was blown away by his songwriting & musical prowess. He can rewrite our favorite songs & make them his own. His voice, guitar & song together really resonate. He is not to be missed. I remember seeing George Strait in the 70's at Gruene Hall,he has a soulful quality like that.
